Best Blogs of the Week

Happy new year. We hope the holidays were relaxing and delicious

In this week’s post, we did not include any year-end or forward-looking posts. Those posts provide a bit too much of the predictable. So this week we found two excellent posts that simplify complicated, important issues.

  • AllianceBernstein – This post makes a nice case for looking into Emerging Markets value stocks and that broad-based EM equity indexes may be tilted to high P/E stocks with limited upside. Interesting thought after the 2013 global bull market.
  • Columbia – This post explains the Volcker rule from creation to potential impact.

Best Blogs of the Week

The onslaught of “what we saw in 2013” blog posts peaked this week. We included our favorite plus an interesting take from a visit to California.

  • AllianceBernstein – Nice post with 4 lessons equally important for FAs and their clients. I’m partial to lesson #3.
  • MFS – Interesting take on the US economy from a visit to the Bay Area.

Best Blogs of the Week

Short week for the column and thus only two posts to share.

AllianceBernstein – Interesting post on how DC plan sponsors are considering volatility. If volatility-aware strategies become prevalent, then FAs may see increasing desire to discuss the topic with more clients.

BlackRock – This post provides helpful and timely input on the potential for irrational exuberance in today’s market

Best Blogs of the Week

Hope all had a great Thanksgiving weekend. We thought to move the best blogs to mid-week as everyone gets back in the swing of it. We have two posts to share from the last week and a half.

  • AllianceBernstein – Helpful post on understanding the ramifications (or lack of) from the market’s repeated all-time highs over recent weeks.
  • Oppenheimer – Detroit, you are protected! And Oppenheimer provides a straightforward interpretation for FAs getting calls on the topic.

Government shutdown. There I said it and seems like everyone in the industry has a requisite blog post now. I liked this post the best (via Pioneer) because of the honest and direct tone.

In speaking with a dozen FAs last week, a common topic (after seeking out yield): is the broad stock market? This succinct post provides a data-driven view.
