Best Blogs of the Week

Happy new year. The fiscal cliff continues to dominate financial news and industry blogs. The consensus is that the going off the cliff (a) has been averted and (b) only for a short time. So it’ll continue to be news.

This week’s posts (5!) are a great examples for providing helpful materials as advisors reach out to clients to discuss 2013 and beyond.

  • BlackRock – All signs point to exchange-traded products continuing to be top of mind with investors. This post provides  a succinct set of trends.
  • BlackRock (2) – This post provides five investment ideas for 2013. Agree or not, it’s really easy to use as a conversation starter.
  • Oppenheimer – This post is on the longer side, but makes a compelling case for equities.
  • Pioneer – The single, most interesting post related to the fiscal cliff.
  • Wells Fargo – Nothing’s better than well-organized bullets. This post has them.

Best Blogs of the Week

Hopefully everyone in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast is surviving with the proper rations and safety precautions. This week’s best blogs cover varying topics, with one politically-charged post.

  • AllianceBernstein – This post makes the case against high-dividend. The post made me think of this image.
  • AllianceBernstein – Well, does the US election matter?
  • American Century – This post discusses the impact on household formation on housing recovery (and the broader economic recovery).
  • Wells Fargo – I  appreciate one specific question in this interviewDoes an aging population favor bonds?

Best Blogs of the Week

This week’s best blogs refresh a few topics, not covered often. The list includes a rare 529 sighting. Though an important investment vehicle, 529 plans rarely show up on industry blogs.

  1. JPMorgan – Making a first time appearance, this post shares easy-to-digest information about US returns versus non-US. The chart is a helpful reminder about how correlated global equity markets have been in 2012.
  2. Putnam – This post discussed the intersection of family trusts and 529 college savings. It’s probably an esoteric topic, but valuable to some advisors.
  3. Wells Fargo – This post challenges conventional investment wisdom succinctly.

Best Blogs of the Week

After a not-so-restful week in beautiful Colorado (long story), we resume the best blogs of the week by reviewing the last two weeks together. Not surprisingly, most blogs covered the Federal Reserve Bank and their decision (to do nothing). We found one post that’s particular interesting on that front. Augmenting that post are a few interesting pieces that appeal to a wide range of advsiors.

  • BlackRock – This post presents different investing opportunities related to the real estate recovery. That is an interesting topic and one many FAs hear about from their clients.
  • Columbia – This post makes a quick case for U.S. equities and is compelling enough to download the full report.
  • Pioneer – This post does an excellent job of covering the Fed’s inaction.
  • Russell – Two things we love: word clouds and defining alternatives. This post includes both.
  • Wells Fargo – The Q&A about the fiscal cliff does a nice job of simplifying asset allocation in a scenario we’re becoming evermore familiar with.
